It's very easy to make!
Once you try a homemade extract you will not want to go back to the store bought ones.
First get your bottles and caps washed in warm soapy water, then rinse well and allow to dry completely.
After that simply you need to chop 4-6 beans in two, slice them lengthwise with a sharp knife and pour a half bottle (375 mL) of vodka, bourbon or rum over them and store at room temperature in a dark place.
If you can use a dark glass bottle, it would be better. Now shake the bottle or container every 1-2 weeks and wait-two months is a bare minimum, six months is better.
Vanilla extract, like good wine, only improves with age. You can leave the beans in the bottle and top it up with fresh spirits as you use it.
Now your own homemade pure vanilla extract will be ready for use in 8 weeks.
Have you ever noticed that the vanilla beans can be re-used at least one more time, if not more.
You may bottle up your vanilla with the pods & seeds and leave it all in there. Then just top it off with more vodka, bourbon or rum.
Once you have the original vanilla extract in your hand, you may try out many bakery items or a variety of sweet dishes like cakes, custards, creams, puddings, ice cream and many more.
